We fought off the cold in January, we conquered the rain in April.  Now it's time for some warm weather and hopefully a dry day.

When: Sunday, June 10th.  9am until we're done
Where: DelMarVa Range near Cambridge, MD

http://mg42.org/links/delmarva.htm

I'm working on our latest incarnation of the "Friendly Rifle Competition.  Think along the lines of scoped rifles at 100, 200 and 300 yards with balloons.

Fees:  $10.00 to shoot all day, probably $7.50 for lunch.

Come and meet your fellow shooters from The Rally Point, MDShooters.com, Maryland Shall Issue, arfcom and others.

We'll have door prizes, strange and wonderful prizes for the precision rifle competition, information on plans for next years grueling legislative session and great food supplied at a reasonable price by the folks at DelMarVa Range.

The last two shoots had 35-40 people and that was with not so hot weather.  Let's set a new record!

This weekend will mark the first time that two Rally Point shoots have occured on the same weekend.  Our fearless leader, Jamie, will be hosting one in Langhorne, PA as well.

Precision rifle competition guidelines:
This friendly competition is meant to simulate those situations which would require precision shots such as in a hostage crisis.

1. Any centerfire rifle with a scope is permissible.
2. Bipods are acceptible as are rucksacks.  You will not be able to bunker sandbags for the actual (stage 2-4) competition.  Remember, this is a field type operation.
3.  You may use a shooting mat in order to avoid the general grime in front of the firing line.

Stage 1: To be completed prior to the ceasefire and beginning of actual competition at 11am.
1. Up to 10 rounds as sighting shots.  Sandbags may be used for this as well as the benches.
2.  Shooters choice of targets.
3. Spotting scopes are acceptable for this stage.

Stage 2: Starting at 11am.  We'll block off an area so that we don't having issues with the firing line.  Each shooter may post one target.  You have one hour to take your shot.
1.  100 Yards, prone position, 1 shot only. Bipod or rucksack only for support...no sandbags. Scopes only, no spotting scopes.
2.  Target is a simulated sniper as follows:   http://www.mdshooters.com/uploads/SniperTN.jpg
3. Scoring is:
 A ring = 10 points
B ring = 6 points
C ring = 4 points
D Ring = 2 points
4.  Missing the black means zilch.

Stage 3: Hostage shot.
1.  Takes place at 12 noon during the general ceasefire.
2. 200 yards, 1 shot per evolution, 2 evolutions.
3. Targets will be:  Two helium balloons, approximately 10" in diameter representing the "good guys", with a third balloon of contrasting color representing the bad guy.
4. Shooters will advance through this stage one at a time.
5.  Shooter will start approximately 10 yards behind the firing line, BOLT OPEN, FIREARM UNLOADED AS CERTIFIED BY TWO RANGE OFFICERS.
6. At the signal, the shooter will advance at a walking pace to their shooting position. Upon entering the shooting position, the shooter may load ONE ROUND.  Semi-autos may load a magazine with one round.
7. The shooter will await the order to engage the hostile target.
8. Shooter must engage within 5 seconds.
9.  Scoring is as follows:
Hostile struck: 10 points - advance to second evolution of stage 3.
Miss all balloons: No penalty - advance to second evolution of stage 3.
Strike a friendly: 20 point deduction.  Sit out second evolution of stage 3.  Still advance to stage 4.

Stage 4:
1. 300 yards, 2 shots permitted.
2. Target will be a helium balloon approximately 10" in diameter inside of a wooded frame simulating a window frame.
3. Shooters will progress through this stage one at a time.
4. Shooter will engage the target with Norton's elves providing copious verbal distractions.
5.  Second shot permitted if taken within 5 seconds.
6. Scoring is as follows:
1st shot: 20 points
2nd shot: 15 points.

Can we work something out in the way of a friendly pistol competition as well......off the top of my head I'm thinking give people 20 seconds to see how many hits they can score on a metal swinging target at 25 yards, minimum 9mm iron sights?

if you want to do the pistol how about just shooting at disposable pie pans. they are cheap, they record hits and can use group size for tie breakers. they can also just be stapled to the frames there.

now for a scoped rifle shoot, how about pie pans again, say 5 shots at 100 sitting or kneeling, 5 at 200 prone, and 5 at 300 bench or prone ( nortons choice ) say max of 9 or 12 power

another option for pistol would be 10 clays at 15 yards fastest time, i could bring a saw horse set up to hold em. again 9mm irons

we could also have a mag dump contest, say the fastest to semi dump a 20 round mag ak, fal or ar. no bump firing and all shots must hit 25 yard pistol back stop

Ok, ok, I get the message....we want a pistol competition too   Grin

Give me till the end of the week and I'll have a COF put together.  I'm off to two more days of music festivals so I'm completely cut off until Thursday.

I've pretty much got the rifle thing layed out in my mind for this time around.  I'm thinking something carbine related for next time   Cool

Whatever you do make it timed......slow fire bullseye shooters are a bunch of gear-queers.

Haha, I passed that onto my wife.  If you see a short woman with a Pardini on June 10th, start running  Grin

Not my sport at all....too impatient.  However, the wife does pretty well at it and since I buy her nice things I get to buy what I want.   Cool

Looks like I have one, maybe two new shooters coming out.

Since the purpose of these events is to get people involved, I'll need help in keeping them safe, and interested.

So no bashing the new geeks.  Grin

New guy here, came over from MDShooters.  Do you ever do Saturday shoots or is it always Sundays?  I missed the last one bc of the rain.  I wimped out didnt wanna drive 2 hours to be wet and my basement flooded again.  IDK if I'll actually make this one bc of weddings, NASCAR, but Im going to try.

The only reason that we picked Sunday this time was because of my schedule   Wink
