Hi- My name is Gina Thornton Roberts, RDH.
I am a dental hygienist, age 39 & love teaching pistol fun!
I'm a NRA Basic Pistol Instructor in Wilmington, NC.
I moved here 1-1/2 years ago, from Charlotte, NC.
I was born in San Diego, and grew up in Virginia Beach & Dorset, UK.
Yeah, Dad is a retired USN SEAL, CMH (still living).
I got my BA from Winthrop University & my Assoc. from York Tech. in Rock Hill, SC.
I started shooting when one of my patients, Mike Monk, came in wearing a pistol instructor t-shirt in 2000.
He taught me the NRA way!
I became a member of Charlotte Rifle & Pistol Club, had an interest in Conventional Pistol (Bullseye), PPC, Glock Shooting Sports & IDPA.
I learned how to shoot high power rifle and shot a couple of 600yd matches with my AR, open sights.
I was a complete novice, turned into gun geek! Thanks Mike! I want to pass on my positive learning experience!

Class times and locations vary depending on participant registration.
THESE ARE NOT CONCEAL CARRY CLASSES!
$25 NRA Firearm Instruction Responsibility & Safety Training, 2 hours + range time. (hand gun familiarization).
$50 NRA Basic Pistol Certification, 8 hours + Range time, then a written test.
State issue ID needed. Participants are expected to pay for their own range time at Shooter's Choice on Gordon Road in Wilmington, NC,
(a public range I am not employed by, I have to pay my own range fee's as well).

If there is anyone in the Wilmington area that needs a course assistant, I am happy to help.  I know the NRA encourages team work!

Gina,

What area do you Instruct at or are you just at the one range?

Welcome to TRP!

I instruct in any location.
Usually someones living room, kitchen, or apartment club house.
After the book learning, dummy ammo & test, we go to the public indoor gun range Shooter's Choice on Gordon Road.
We go over hands on participation inside the range.
I am not a member of any of the private ranges around here yet, so Shooter's Choice is it for now  Smiley
Plus those other ranges are like an hour away.
Shooter's Choice is only 4 miles from my place here in town.

Thanks for the forum! Cool

How many times a year do you usually hold classes?

I am only teaching three people right now, each separately.
Three separate locations and times, one person at a time.
I like it that way.
After 4 students at a time, a change of venue makes it more difficult to host.
Not too many places let you handle firearms in a public open space.
It is hard to find a time convenient for everyone the more people that are included.

I haven't publicly posted a class on Craig's List, or something like that yet.
So far, it's just been word of mouth.

Is this the range you are referring to? http://www.therallypoint.org/forum/index.php?topic=3575.0

We like Instructors that are local and deal with Basic training and getting new shooters some range time.

Feel free to post any classes you teach in this forum http://www.therallypoint.org/forum/index.php?board=33.0

Thanks so much Jamie for passing on the good word!
Yes, the link you have listed for Shooter's Choice is exactly the public pistol range I use.
Blake, Barry & Ricky are real friendly, and they clean guns there for a nominal fee!
Not that I am worried about my manicure  Roll Eyes
It's so convenient to use them for my classes here in Wilmington!

Now I have to find a public range near Jacksonville, NC.
Some guy wants me to teach him there.
I think I use your forum to see what's nearby  Cheesy
