I would think that it's possible to design a  mount that allowed this, but I don't know if any exists?

Sure - the mount that flips/flicks aside moves the magnifier out of the way.

It wouldn't be useful to look through your rear sight with a naked eye, and then see your front sight at 3x.

I'm looking at my present setup on my LWRC and not sure how I could actually fit it all on the gun without having to mount the Eotech all the way up front....

Are you saying if I don't have a fold down front sight that the magnification is going to be a problem?

Using a magnified optic with a fixed front sight isn't an issue, a lot of people do it.  What Freddy is saying, I think, is that trying to use those iron sights with the magnified optic still in place may be difficult since the rear sight is normal but the front sight is magnified.  This is why most people use some sort of folding rear sight when using magnified optics.  If their optic fails then it is, or the magnifier, is moved out of the way and the iron sight is deployed.

I already have a folding rear sight with an Eotech and I really wish I could see a little further sometimes but not end up compromising my present configuration too much. Everytime I've seen the magninfication optic on an eotech I never saw rear iron sights

Yes - Boomer knows what I was trying to say.  You wouldn't want to "use" the irons through the magnifier but you still would want them to be on the gun in a one-or-the-other configuration of some kind.

The aimpoint/larue mount pivots off to the side and locks on/off with a ball detent.

The EOTech mount flips to the side by pushing a lever.

Both of these are good designs, and at the end of the day it's a personal preference issue.
